Lion dance

When asked later about the lion dance he saw, Liem said, "The lion ate the vegetables and made a MESS on the floor!"

He loves this shirt

Wants to wear it all the time. Thanks to Aunty Michelle for getting it for him!

It was all going swimmingly well until...

....Liem got water on his face. Liem had great fun in my godparents' pool. Happy to dunk his feet then legs and then his body. Went for a little "swim" with my godfather... until he got a bit of water on his face. That was it. Lots of crying and he lost his faith in my godfather and refused to get in again. Oh well...
P.S. That's watermelon juice on his chin.

Take a photo!

Everytime we cut Liem's hair now, he EXPECTS a photo to be taken...

Potato and onions

We've been experimenting with growing vegetables in the garden. The garlic has disappeared completely. A few potatoes (the one pictured in Liem's hand was so small it was hardly worth peeling) and onions. The onions worked the best and tasted beautiful...we had them in salad (Liem didn't eat any, of course).

G or PG only!

I was talking about movies with some friends the other day and realised that, at the moment, we only watch G (general) or PG (parental guidance) rated movies at home. When I was growing up, my parents never bothered with ratings...we watched everything they watched. Although having said that, everything on tv was censored in Malaysia anyway to exclude sex scenes and violence. I was reminded of the time when Liem must have been about 2 and I was watching "Lord of the Rings - Return of the King" (incidentally, this is rated M for mature audiences only) while Liem was having his nap. When he woke up, we put him in front of the tv and I went off to do something. While I was gone, Smeagol strangled Deagol to DEATH over the ring! Liem's eyes were popping out of his head! Right! No more M rated movies for Liem until he's much older!

Conned!

My godparents babysat Liem while Khiem and I went to see the Magic Flute a few weekends ago. When we got back, my godmother happily told us that Liem was very good and no trouble although he didn't want to go to sleep when they asked him to. So they told him that when the big hand of the clock went to 8 and it was on 5 then, he had to go to bed (this is at 2.25 pm when Liem usually has a nap at 1.30pm). When the big hand went to 8 (2.40 pm), Liem happily went to bed and had a long nap. I told her that at home, there is no negotiation. When it's bed time, it's bed time. My godmother laughed and laughed, "We thought we conned him, actually he conned us!".

Although I think WE are the ones that got conned. At home Liem doesn't touch a single leaf of lettuce and wails when we try and give him green beans (French beans, as my mum calls them). At my godparents', he happily ate sang choy bao, wrapping the lettuce leaves around the fried minced pork mixture (which includes green beans) and chomping the whole lot down. He must have eaten about 3 of them. Haiyoh...
