Pokemon Trainer

For Book Week, Liem had to dress up as a character from a book or a hero (which could be a superhero, Olympic athlete or anyone who was a hero). Liem decided to dress up as a Pokemon trainer. He drew a Pokeball and stuck it to a cap (actually the sticky tape didn't stick well so I had to stitch the picture on later). Here he is, ready to throw a Pokeball...

Shark tooth!

Earlier this week Liem said, "I have a weird tooth" and looking into his mouth, we saw that his first permanent tooth had erupted behind his milk tooth instead of under it. This is known as a shark tooth. A trip to the dentist the next day, and because the milk tooth was not even wobbly, the dentist said it had to come out. Liem was a champ throughout it all, numbing gel, injection, pliers to wrench the tooth out...$141 later, we went home with Liem's first tooth in a bag. The tooth fairy gave Liem only $1 because the tooth fairy was bankrupted by the dentist. Given that teeth come up in pairs...the tooth next to this one will likely come up behind the milk tooth too, and that might be another trip to the dentist... Time to look into health insurance with dental cover....

Golden Gate Park

HP, Dad, Mum and I visit the Japanese Tea Garden in the Golden Gate Park. We have some lovely sencha there. HP and I share some mochi... Then we walk while Mum wait at the tea shop. After that, HP and I power walk through the Botanic Gardens. A lovely visit to round off the trip. After that, it was to lunch at a Korean tofu soup place, then to the airport to head home. It was really nice visit, great to have fun at Shawn and HP's wedding, meet up with new family and of course enjoy all the good food...

City tour

Mum, Dad and I went on a city tour of San Francisco....this was good for Mum because she could have a nap in the bus (actually I had a nap too!). We stopped at Twin Peaks for some photos, and also across the Golden Gate bridge for more photos. We found out from our bus driver ("My name is Driver") that July and August are the best months for fog. And there was plenty of fog indeed...

Napa Valley winery tour

Another limo! We can easily get used to this! Our first winery was the Castello di Amarosa...a replica of a medieval castle. Lovely wines too..I chose two bottles for Khiem (and Dad hijacked my gift!). Then it was up a cable car to Sterling...a more modern winery. Mum got to see more this time because she had a wheelchair this time... And the last winery was Silver Oak which is famous for its Cabernet. A lovely dinner at Fisherman's Wharf to end the day.

Cliff House

A few more photos at the Cliff House then HP and Shawn had a tea ceremony with Mum and Dad, then with Betty Ann and Tom, then with me! Shawn now calls me "Je"! A beautiful wedding dinner too. Not being a real FAB, I didn't take any photos of the food.

Palace of Fine Arts

We wanted to take some photos at the Golden Gate Bridge but it was almost completely covered in fog. So we went to the Palace of Fine Arts. Beautiful place! Got some good pictures, quite cold and windy in the middle of the pillars (Mum was smart to hide in the limo!).

HP and Shawn's wedding

Here are photos of HP getting ready. HP and Shawn surprised us with a limo to take us all to City Hall. Mum and Betty Ann, Lena and Dad while waiting for HP and Shawn to get the marriage license. Lena sees me taking the photo and quickly runs behind Dad ("the bigger one at the back, Hsiu Pin taught me"). The civil ceremony then photos at and around City Hall. I love the picture of Tom "adjusting" Shawn's "bow tie". HP and Lena taking self portraits... and the limo guy Dave surprising us all by turning up with "Just Married" on the limo window.
